Better Than Sex Desserts celebrates Valentine’s Day every day. This intimate dessert-and-drinks-only restaurant plans to open in Downtown Plano late spring at 1010 E 15th St in the spot previously occupied by Plano Kitchen & Bar and before that, Angela’s at the Crosswalk.
Sheila Phalen-Miller, owner of Better Than Sex (BTS) Desserts in Plano, had dreamed of a restaurant that only served desserts since she was 21. Years later, she and her then-boyfriend, Derrick Miller, stumbled upon BTS Desserts while visiting Key West, Fla. Immediately she knew it was exactly what she’d dreamed.
The restaurant was romantic and private, and all the names of the desserts were sexual innuendoes, such as Italian Stallion and Cookie Nookie Pie. “We were really intrigued by it because it was funny and lighthearted,” said Sheila.
A few years down the road, she and Derrick, now married, moved to Orlando, Fla. and found a second location of BTS Desserts. They learned soon after that the restaurant was offering franchise opportunities.
After much thought and prayer, Sheila and Derrick decided to move back to North Texas and open up their own BTS Desserts in Downtown Plano as a destination for anyone celebrating special occasions or a romantic night out.
The Better Than Sex Desserts menu has a variety of signature desserts like Blueberry Birthday Suit, Between My Red Velvet Sheets Cheesecake and The Fever. A unique twist is added to beer, wine and cocktails by rimming the glass in different chocolates, caramel or sugars. “We will have all kinds of different concoctions,” said Sheila.
The interior of BTS Desserts is designed to cultivate intimate conversation through draped private booths and tables enclosed on three sides.
Better Than Sex Desserts will only be open in the evenings. Keep the intimate spot in mind for your next date night or a night out with the girls.
