PLANO (1080 KRLD) - A North Texas teenager has pleaded guilty for planning an ISIS-inspired attack at a local shopping mall.

17-year old Matin Azizi-Yarand was indicted in July of 2018 by a Collin County grand jury for solicitation to commit capital murder of a police officer and for making a terroristic threat.

On Monday, Collin County Prosecutors announced Azizi-Yarand will plead guilty to the terror plot and will serve a 20 year sentence.

Court papers released in May 2018 say Azizi-Yarand had saved up money and intended to buy weapons and tactical gear to open fire at Stonebriar Mall in Frisco during Ramadan...a time when he thought there would be few muslims at the mall.

Azizi-Yarand had been communicating with the FBI for advice, not knowing he was speaking to an undercover agent.  Just before the plan was to be carried out, police moved in.

Former US Attorney Matthew Orwig has served on terrorism task force committees and think this sentence sends a strong message.
