These young people provide crucial support to family members, but often face challenges like missing school, social isolation, and taking on adult responsibilities at a young age.   Our Caregiving in the U.S. research (done in partnership with AARP) was featured in a The Wall Street Journal article by Ansberry Clare. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced the six states that have been accepted to participate in the Direct Care Workforce Strategies Center’s Intensive Technical Assistance offerings that will help address #DirectCare workforce shortages in their states. The announcement also includes the first group of individuals to be selected for the Strategies Center’s Advisory Committee. Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Indiana, New Jersey, and New Mexico were offered acceptance into the Intensive Technical Assistance program. 14 other states were selected for the second program establishing Peer-Learning Collaboratives for states to share best practices and strategies for addressing the direct care workforce crisis with each other.
