California coffee producer headed to Plano with new operation

NuZee Inc. is opening a new packing hub in Plano.

A California-based coffee producer is expanding to Texas with a new operation in Plano.

NuZee Inc. of Vista, Calif., has rented a Plano building where it plans to create a packing hub. The facility will employ about 30 people handling the company's single-serve pour over coffee products.

The company sells its products under the Coffee Blenders and Twin Peaks brands.

"This added capacity, once completed, will broaden our geographic presence and allow us to better serve current and future clients in a more efficient and cost-effective manner," Travis Gorney, president and chief operating officer of NuZee, said in a statement.

The 16,603-square-foot Plano facility will be up and running this summer.

NuZee said its new Texas operation will provide "several strategic advantages, including more favorable logistics given its central U.S. location, lower cost structure and ultimately greater economies of scale as production ramps up."

The company also is doubling the size of its production facility and headquarters in California. The expansion will allow the company to grow its production capacity almost 50%.

NuZee is the second California coffee company to head to Texas.  In 2015, Torrance-based Farmers Brothers Coffee announced it was moving its headquarters and a production facility to Northlake, north of Fort Worth.
