About Us

Headquartered in Riverside, California, The County of Riverside Transportation Department is responsible for the design, operation and maintenance of roads, bridges and transportation facilities within the unincorporated areas of the County - an area of about 7,300 square miles. The County maintains 2,243 miles of roads and 116 bridges. The Department protects the health and safety of residents and improves the quality of life through a variety of critical activities. These activities include the engineering design, construction and maintenance of County roads; review of plans and construction of transportation facilities by private land development; and land surveying and map processing. Our focus is to enhance the quality of life of our communities by improving safety, maintaining existing roads and bridges and enhancing roadway capacity to keep up with our population growth.
