Currie Park Phase 1 improvements project gets underway

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is launching a project to plan, design and implement a first phase of improvements for Currie Park in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood. These improvements are guided by the Currie Park Master Plan [PDF], approved in 2016 as part of MPRB’s master plan for all neighborhood parks in its south service area.
The scope for this Phase 1 improvements project includes a new splash pad to replace the existing wading pool, along with improvements to the park’s restroom building and playground.
Timeline and public impacts
Summer 2018: Community engagement for specific Phase 1 improvements to the park
Summer 2018 – Winter 2018-2019: Planning, design, construction bidding
Spring – Fall 2019: Construction
In Summer 2018, the wading pool will be removed in anticipation of the new splash pad coming in 2019. However, the rest of the park will remain open.
Nearby parks with wading pools include East Phillips Park, Elliot Park, Franklin Steele Square and Peavey Field Park; and the newly opened Phillips Aquatics Center has two indoor pools.
