Do you know an individual or organization that makes outstanding contributions to human rights in our community?
The Moorhead Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for the 2023 Human Rights Awards. Please consider nominating an organization or individual serving the Moorhead area that has made outstanding contributions to human rights in the areas of workplace, education, civic/community, non-profit, or youth service. Please use the Human Rights Award Nomination form. Nominations are due November 13.
Purpose
The purpose of the Commission is to secure for all persons, whether resident or visitor, equal opportunity in education, employment, housing, public accommodations, and public services and full participation for all Moorhead citizens in the affairs of this community.
Term length: 3 years
Term limit: 2 terms
Meetings: 3rd Wednesday of every month at 5:00 pm in the auditorium of the Hjemkomst Center at 202 1st Ave N, Moorhead.

Standards for Public Participation and Comment
The City of Moorhead has resumed normal meeting practices. The City’s boards and commissions will operate under the following standards related to attendance and participation effective immediately.

Public attendance. Public seating during meetings is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. Following current CDC guidelines, unvaccinated individuals are encouraged to wear masks; masks for others are optional.

Options for citizens to comment

Citizens may speak under the “Citizens to Be Heard” item of an agenda; they will have up to three minutes to address the board/commission unless the chair grants additional time.

Citizens can make verbal or written comments before the meeting. Written comments can be emailed to the assigned Staff Liaison or mailed to 500 Center Ave, Moorhead, MN 56561-0779. Verbal comments will be accepted by calling the assigned Staff Liaison. Comments must be received at least one business day before the meeting. A staff member may provide a summary of the comments to the board/commission.

Citizens may comment during a meeting by phone by making arrangements with the assigned Staff Liaison at least one business day before the meeting. These individuals will be given information to call and be connected during the meeting. They will have up to three minutes to address the board/commission.
