Any time is a great time to fish. And now that the weather has turned warm and Spring fishing season is in full force, it is time to brush up on those fish-cleaning skills. This program will focus on the equipment needed and common methods for cleaning both scale and skin fish. This is a single program that will cover the three-part Fish Cleaning series.

Most sportsmen are interested in learning the basic of scoring their buck's antlers. While there are several scoring systems, each with its own set of rules, the Boone and Crockett (B&C) system is widely accepted as the standard from which all others were developed. Join Conservation Educator Lyle Whittaker for a MDC workshop that will teach participants the basics of scoring a typical whitetail deer antler. All equipment and antler will be provided. This is an introductory workshop; participants will not be certified as official measurers. Registration is required.

Lesson 3: “Five Common Missouri Fish” combines instruction with hands-on fishing in order to teach young anglers and families the anatomy, habitat, diet, and life cycle of five common Missouri fish.

Lesson 4: “Fishing with Lures and Fishing Regulations” combines instruction with hands-on fishing to teach young anglers and families to identify different kinds of lures and to grasp an understanding of applicable fishing regulations and why we have them.

All fishing gear will be provided by the instructors. Please wear clothing and close-toed shoes suitable for outdoor and water activities.

Each participant will need to register for this program individually on the Missouri Department of Conservation Discover Fishing website. To register your child, you may need to make a family account, or add them to an existing family account. You can also make your child their own, separate account.

All participants who complete all 4 Discover Nature Fishing Lessons will go home with a free fishing reward to encourage fishing with the family!
