Sixteen Luxembourgish organisations have launched an initiative demanding the administration lead by example.

The initiative is concerned with pairing the government's financial support for businesses with respect and engagement for human rights.

OGBL president Nora Back emphasised that the corona crisis had proven the fragility of supply chains, which is also cause for humanitarian concerns. According to Back, businesses' voluntary engagement is insufficient and should be incentivised through regulations. The initiative therefore offers a helping hand to the administration in creating these measures, which they recommend aligning with revenues.

The organisations moreover advocate for the government to lead by example in the matter. President of Fairtrade Luxembourg Jean-Louis Zeien underlined that businesses, which are subsidised by the government should be subject to stricter regulations in regards to human rights violations.
