The minister of health underlined that all procedures would remain voluntary, if a vaccine for the coronavirus were to be created.

A parliamentary inquiry into the prospect of a coronavirus vaccine was recently proposed by deputy Marc Hansen of déi Gréng.

Paulette Lenert noted that the government envisioned covering 50 to 70 percent of the population as soon as researchers could provide a viable solution.

No decision has yet been made on the prioritisation of people, Lenert underlined. The EU strategy envisions vaccinating at least 40 percent on the continental population, while all procedures will remain completely voluntary.

The Grand Duchy has provided 1.6 million euro in support to a European initiative that is currently working on a vaccine.

However, no release date can be formulated at this point.
