Phyllis Wheatley Community Center Summer Fun

Welcome to

Phyllis Wheatley Community Center!

W. Gertrude Brown

From Humble Beginnings

Originally established as Phyllis Wheatley Settlement House, PWCC has been serving the Black and BIPOC community of Minneapolis since October 17th, 1924.

Now after nearly 100 years, the Phyllis Wheatley Community Center is still serving North Minneapolis residents through community-based programming, education, and events that uplift the community, fulfill our mission, and pave the way for our vision — of a world where everyone, regardless of background, has access to quality education, equitable opportunities, and the tools to reach their full potential. We are committed to building a society where diversity is celebrated, individuals are empowered, and every voice is heard and respected — can be realized.

Phyllis Wheatley Community Center

Our Mission:

We create pathways for individuals to discover their strengths and take control of their futures.

We envision a world where everyone, regardless of background, has access to quality education, equitable opportunities, and the tools to reach their full potential. We are committed to building a society where diversity is celebrated, individuals are empowered, and every voice is heard and respected.

Mississippi Summer Exploration

Registration is open!

Camp Parsons Mississippi Summer Exploration

Youth ages 9-12 are invited to join Phyllis Wheatley's Camp Katharine Parsons team on an exploration of the Mississippi within the Twin Cities Metro this summer! On Tuesdays and Thursdays for two week sessions, youth will traverse the Mississippi, learning about the river's ecology and the historic impacts of industrialization along the river, the impact it had on the communities they live in, and how to be great stewards of our land and waterways.
