Dear Friend,

Like each of you, APAH is closely monitoring national and local guidance to slow the spread of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus. Our priority is the health and safety of our more than 4,000 residents as well as APAH’s staff, volunteers, and neighbors.

I have been heartened by the outpouring of generosity and concern for APAH residents.  While all of us are deeply impacted, there is no question that low-income individuals and families face great and immediate challenges as hourly work is reduced, and food and rent insecurity rise.

I wanted to take a moment to share with you APAH’s plans to meet these challenges and, if you are able, how you can help.

Our Programs:

Effective immediately, APAH’s Resident Services is focused exclusively on health, well-being, and emergency needs. Onsite distribution of food through our partner AFAC is continuing. All residents have received safety information following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control as well as key emergency numbers.  Our team has also identified our most vulnerable households, including seniors and individuals with disabilities, and will be reaching out to them regularly. All other enrichment activities have been cancelled or postponed.

The construction of Queens Court will continue as long as it is safe to do so and is sanctioned in the policy statements and executive orders of DC, Maryland and Virginia where construction services and services to the economically disadvantaged are essential services and by necessity shall continue. The construction site is following all safety precautions and protocols as outlined by the CDC and regulations of the Department of Labor’s OSHA division.

Our Team:

Like many of you, APAH staff are working remotely to the greatest extent possible. Team members, both staff and volunteer, coordinating food distributions are onsite as needed with heightened social distancing and cleaning procedures.  We will continue to follow the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control as well as our state and local agencies. I am grateful for our staff and the community for their commitment to serving our residents; and for our property management partner, S.L. Nusbaum, for their extraordinary work to maintain our properties.

How You Can Help:

APAH’s Resident Emergency Fund provides urgent rent assistance and funds for other emergency needs. Our residents are already experiencing income loss and we are coordinating closely with our partners in Arlington County and non-profit safety-net providers to meet emergency needs.  Please consider making a donation to APAH’s Emergency Fund or to our partners, AFAC, Arlington Thrive, and the Arlington Free Clinic, to help us keep up with the growing needs of our residents.

We are grateful to be a part of this caring community. Please take steps to keep yourself and your loved ones safe.  Thank you for your support for APAH and our residents.
