Last night, the US Senate passed a $2.2 trillion stimulus package, which the US House of Representatives is slated to take up shortly. We are now digging into the details to better understand how the federal government stimulus package will benefit all facets of life here in King County.

Yesterday, Public Health Seattle & King County launched a new public information campaign called, "Stand Together, Stay Apart" in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jay Inslee issued a stay-at-home order in Washington state, requiring all nonessential businesses to close and for people to stay home except for critical outings for food, doctor appointments, required work, etc. You can download a full list of what businesses and workers are listed as essential here.

Unemployment Pay No Longer Contingent on Job Search

In the face of unprecedented job losses, the state has made changes to make it easier for people to quickly access the unemployment benefits to which they are entitled, including waiving the waiting week to apply for benefits and waiving the job search requirement for eligibility. More information is available on the Employment Security Department’s website or by calling 1-800-318-6022.

Misinformation has created fear and hostility that is impacting many of our communities experiencing inequities, particularly our Chinese and other Asian (and Pacific Islander) communities and unsheltered neighbors. Public Health has put together several anti-discrimination resources that I encourage you to use.
