Summary:

The Tri-Missions Vienna are seeking eligible and qualified applicants for position of Commercial Specialist.

Duties

The incumbent is a core member of Commercial Service (CS) Austria supporting the Commercial Service globally in developing strategies and programs to advance U.S. business interests in Austria.   Serves as professional analyst and advisor to the Senior Commercial Officer (SCO) and senior U.S. government officials for assigned business sectors.   Provides complex counseling for U.S. companies in assigned sectors on business opportunities and challenges.  Leads in activities to assist U.S. firms to meet their business growth goals including market research and reporting, trade promotion events, and strategic private and government engagement.    Develops expert knowledge in specific assigned sectors, maintains relevant high-level contacts in government and private sector, and creates medium-to long-term strategies for advancing U.S. business in these sectors. Monitors potential market barriers for U.S. business and, as necessary, leads in developing strategies for USG engagement to address these in close coordination with U.S. companies and regional/headquarters colleagues. As relevant, identifies government procurement opportunities for assigned sectors and recommends appropriate strategies to the SCO and U.S. companies to pursue these including potentially formal USG Advocacy support.  Actively promotes Austrian company investment in the United States, especially in assigned sectors.  Assists the SCO with senior-level Commerce Department official visits.  May assume project leader responsibilities for more extensive projects, as well as oversee interns and contractors.   

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: 


At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in economics, market research, marketing, trade promotion, sales, or other closely related fields. The job holder must have knowledge and experience regarding working with international business practices.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:  



  1. Detailed understanding of Austrian government, political system, economy, laws and regulations, business culture, etc. as well as a clear understanding of the structure and size of assigned industries, including the role of domestic production v. imports, distribution channels, pricing, market size and major end-users.  In addition, the specialist must have a strong understanding of political and regulatory environments related to business and economics.

  2. Strong knowledge of key business aspects of at least one leading Austrian industry, including technical terminology in both languages, as well as the willingness and ability to build on this knowledge as required. These skills will be applied as successful candidate is assigned lead industries based on staffing needs and best opportunities for U.S. companies based on country-specific trends, for example Digital Economy/ICT, Advanced Manufacturing, and/or Energy.

  3. Thorough knowledge of U.S. business practices.

Education Requirements:

A (four year) bachelor’s degree in economics, marketing, international trade or business administration is required.

The job holder must be able to read and draft complex analytical research materials in both languages.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  



  1. Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of mid to high-level contacts in the host government and private sector; to plan, organize and execute complex commercial research projects; to prepare precise and accurate reports embodying in-depth analytical evaluations; and to render advice with objectivity and employing sound professional judgment.

  2. Strong interpersonal, diplomatic and motivational skills are required.

  3. Ability to draft accurate and detailed business correspondence requiring minimal editing. Ability to prioritize tasks.

The above salary is the minimum entry level salary for the position. 


For Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), locally-resident EFMs, working at the Tri-Missions Vienna, compensation also consists of the prorated 13th and 14th month payment in addition to the Euro salary above. The compensation package will include health, separation, and other benefits.



For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
