10 reasons to Rendezvous

Happy Hollow Foundation’s Rendezvous at the Zoo is just around the corner on Saturday, Sept. 7. Still on the fence? Here are a few reasons to buy your tickets now!

1. It feels good to give! Your $250 ticket supports Happy Hollow Foundation, the nonprofit organization that helps Happy Hollow thrive. Your gift gives future visitors the chance to see hilarious and unique puppet shows, take a ride on Danny the Dragon and marvel at the magnificent jaguar.
2. Do it for the kids. Happy Hollow Foundation has a new field trip initiative to bring students from low-income schools to Happy Hollow for a day of education and fun — free of charge! Check out these beaming faces!
   
3. Save the animals! Proceeds from Rendezvous support Happy Hollow’s conservation efforts. Whether it’s through the Species Survival Plan, a program that aims to grow and maintain healthy populations of threatened and endangered species, or through local efforts like the Progress for Pollinators grant program, Happy Hollow is dedicated to conservation.
4. Feel like an insider. At this exclusive event, you’ll go behind the scenes to areas that are usually closed to the public, including the vet clinic and the kitchen where meals are prepped daily for more than 60 species of animals.
   
5. “Adulting” at Happy Hollow is awesome. Who doesn’t want to sip a cocktail while peering into the pool of an American alligator?
6. Speaking of cocktails… Arrive between 5:30 and 6, and you’ll be treated to a custom drink — the Preservation Honey Bee’s Knees — featuring gin, fresh lemon juice and honey from Happy Hollow’s apiary. Look for the honeycomb tent for more sweet samples later in the night!
   
7. Tasty dining. Five stations will feature a wide array of small plates including crowd favorites (braised short rib) and innovative dishes (fried avocado salad). You won’t leave hungry!
8. Meerkats, y’all. Among the many fun activities planned for the evening, there will be a special enrichment activity for these little guys that will be a blast for them and for us.
9. Two words: chicken run. Enjoy the uproarious sight of Happy Hollow’s brood of heritage birds making a mad dash across the chicken yard.
10. A starry night. You’ll get to experience Happy Hollow after dark, complete with the lit-up carousel against the backdrop of a San Jose sunset. Are there more surprises in store? You bet!
