Texas Bach Festival and “Live Music at the Library” present TBF Artistic Director Dr. Barry Scott Williamson, piano and voice, as he shares personal insights into and performances of German lieder, Celtic tunes and arrangements of great folk/rock/pop songs by James Taylor, Billy Joel, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Don McLean, Cat Stevens and others. This unique recital event will be presented on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 pm in the Georgetown Library Hewlett & Friends Room. Free admission.

Barry Scott Williamson, Founder and Artistic Director of the Texas Bach Festival, has a lengthy and revered international history of conducting innovation and accomplishment. Known for his dynamic performances of 18th-century repertoire, his stylistic knowledge and passionate affinity with the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have been of particular significance. Dr. Williamson’s distinguished work with the Austin Civic Chorus (now Chorus Austin) and the Texas Choral Consort (now Panoramic Voices) elevated both into leading choral organizations in Central Texas, including founding the “Sing It Yourself Messiah” (still continuing today) and envisioning and leading preeminent biannual choral symposia as well as leading international tours in 12 countries throughout Europe, the UK, Scandinavia and Canada. Dr. Williamson made his European conducting debut at the 1991 European Music Festival in Stuttgart, and his Carnegie Hall debut in June 2018. Upon receiving his D.M.A. from UT-Austin, Williamson served as Director of Choral Activities at Trinity University (San Antonio, TX) and UT-El Paso. A passionate advocate of contemporary composers, he has conducted to date 14 world/regional premieres, including compositions by Texas composers Donald Grantham, Robert Rodriguez, Frank Speller, Timothy Kramer and Patricia M. Long.
Since its 2017 inaugural year, Dr. Williamson has crafted the Texas Bach Festival’s annual concert series to offer a critically-acclaimed trademark variety of free outreach events and chamber music, choral, orchestral, organ and opera/recital performances, Georgetown-area music lovers with a transformative educational and performance experience. He also teaches throughout the year with Life-Long Learners GTX and UT NOVA and SAGE, sharing his passion and expertise with a variety of composers and topics. Dr. Williamson is also a gifted lyric baritone and pianist who loves performing a wide variety of popular/sacred/operatic repertoire of all periods and styles.

New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation. The Daniel Bennett Group performs a special CD release concert on June 16 at 2pm.
Award-winning bandleader Daniel Bennett will perform original compositions on saxophone, flute and clarinet. Bennett is joined by master percussionist Koko Bermejo, playing drums and keyboard simultaneously. The trio is rounded out by acclaimed bassist Kevin Hailey. The Daniel Bennett Group is celebrating the release of their new album, ‘Mr Bennett’s Mind’ (Manhattan Daylight Media). The album has been lauded by critics across the world. The UK Jazz Journal called Bennett, “an outspoken voice of hope,” in the global Jazz community. The Boston Globe described Daniel Bennett’s music as “a mix of jazz, folk and minimalism.”
Daniel Bennett Group has been featured in Timeout New York, NPR, Miami Herald and the Boston Globe. The Daniel Bennett Group was recently voted ‘Best New Jazz’ in Hot House Magazine. Bennett is the associate director of the New York Jazz Academy in Times Square. Bennett recently played woodwinds in ‘Blank! The Musical,’ the first fully improvised musical to launch on a national stage. The New York Times called the show, “witty, likable and ludicrous!” Daniel Bennett’s genre-bending sound has captivated audiences throughout the world.

Cloud 9 (A duo from the group Beyond the Pale)
Cloud 9 delivers a wild musical ride outside the boundaries of convention. Delighting audiences everywhere, the band is grounded in the traditional roots music of Ireland, and Scotland with imaginative ventures across musical borders. Where else can you experience fiery Irish reels, haunting Scottish ballads, outrageously humorous songs and music from around the world including Mexican polkas and Texas swing?
Cloud 9 has been performing at festivals and concert venues since 2001 and delivers a wild ride with stunning harmonies and dazzling instrumental flare. The band effortlessly spins out intricate and rousing instrumentals, humorous and haunting songs and culturally rich stories from a variety of musical traditions.
