Montgomery County Public Libraries Partners with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer Free Introductory Boating and Boating Safety Courses

Montgomery County Public Libraries is partnering with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to offer an introductory course on boating and boating safety.

The beginner boating course will provide residents with information on how to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states. Other topics include introduction to boating, boating law, boating safety equipment, safe boating, navigation, boating problems, trailering, storing and protecting your boat, fishing, river boating and other issues.

The two-sessions course, facilitated by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, will be offered at the following libraries:

Maggie Nightingale, 19633 Fisher Avenue, Poolesville
Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, March 28; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Marilyn J. Praisner, 14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville
Saturday, April 18 and Saturday, April 25; 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. 
Twinbrook, 202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville
Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2; 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Davis, 6400 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda
Saturday, May 16 and Saturday, May 23; 1 to 5 p.m.
“We are delighted to partner with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary to provide this course in our community,” said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo. “Accurate information about safe boating is crucial for residents who enjoy boating in the creeks, rivers, and lakes of Montgomery County.”

Participants registered in the course must attend both sessions.
