Gov. Laura Kelly discussed rural broadband at Kansas Farm Bureau for fireside chat

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Governor Laura Kelly joined Kansas Farm Bureau President Rich Felts and Kansas Department of Agriculture Secretary Mike Beam virtually Saturday about the state’s economy.

Kelly is happy how people are continuing to come together as the state combats the pandemic and spoke about the importance of rural broadband access across the state.

“The kinds of things that keep our state strong and allows us to develop economically in all industries. So, broadband was important part of that now and going forward.”

She said they put $60 million dollars from the cares act funding went to it. There is money set to be put towards it in the 2022 budget already.

“I see it just as important as funding our roads, funding our schools and funding technology,” said Kelly.
