All crisis-intervention, referral, and accompaniment services are free. Clinical services provided by specially trained psychologists, social workers, and paraprofessionals are either free or based on a sliding scale according to individual financial resources. Programs may also accept private insurance, medical assistance, or Medicare, and most offer subsidized fees. No one is turned away due to inability to pay for services. To accommodate people who may be hearing or speech impaired, all Rape Crisis and Recovery Centers are equipped with TTY machines.
For those who do not have access to a TTY machine, the Maryland Relay system can be reached by dialing 711. The Maryland Relay is a communication system that allows contact between TTY users and standard phone users. If you are deaf, hearing or speech impaired or need to contact a TTY user who is, simply dial 711 for a Relay operator. An operator will facilitate the conversation by talking to the standard phone user and typing to the TTY user. This service is completely free for all local calls and is available 24 hours a day/365 days a year. All calls are strictly confidential and no record of any conversation is kept.
Some of Maryland’s Rape Crisis and Recovery Centers have the ability to respond to non-English speakers on their hotlines by using the Language Line. The Language Line interpretation services are accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for people who speak any one of 140 different languages.
