Press Releases - Department of Transportation

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 15, 2019

At an upcoming public hearing, residents will have an opportunity to present oral and/or written comments concerning construction of sidewalks in the Olney Acres and Macduff Avenue community. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will hold the meeting on Wednesday, December 11, at 7 p.m. in Room 115 (all purpose room/cafeteria) of Cashell Elementary School, located at 17101 Cashell Road, Rockville.

The proposed sidewalk will enhance safety for those with disabilities, pedestrians and bicyclists as they travel to schools and nearby facilities. Public input helps determine whether or not to proceed with constructing all or a portion of the sidewalks. The proposed sidewalks are located on:

  • The West side of Overwood Drive from Morningwood Drive to the property line between 17700 and 17701 Overwood Drive;
  • The South side of Prestwood Drive from Cashell Road to Overwood Drive;
  • The North side of Bettswood Drive from Cashell Road to Overwood Drive;
  • The South side of Macduff Avenue from the existing sidewalk to Cherry Valley Drive.

Project files are available for examination from MCDOT's Division of Transportation Engineering office at 100 Edison Park Drive, 4th Floor, Gaithersburg, Maryland.  Schedule an appointment to review the files, obtain details and/or information related to the hearing, reserve a time to testify at the hearing and/or submit written comments by contacting:
