About us
What if you took the opportunity to invest in a short-term goal that could create a lifetime career for you? In addition to being paid, apprentices gain job experience, network to obtain job references and can test drive an occupation.
Who
The apprentice programs are designed for soon-to-be high school graduates or adults who:
• Want to plan for after graduation (whether that includes joining the workforce,
college or military)
• Need resources or support to attend college
• Have an interest in an occupation at SRS
• Enjoy hands-on work and training
What
Currently, the SRS Apprenticeship School programs are built around three career paths:
• Facility/Production Operators (Eight months of classroom/laboratory instruction and on-the-job training with an SRS instructor using equipment identical to different facilities)
• Maintenance Mechanics (Two years of classroom/laboratory instruction and
on-the-job training in various facilities with Senior Maintenance Mechanics)
• Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Mechanics (Three years of classroom/ laboratory instruction and on-the-job training in various facilities with Senior E&I Mechanics)
And Why
The SRS Apprenticeship School creates qualified full-service employees trained in specific disciplines needed on the Site. Students will complete this program with a nationally recognized and portable credential from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Key Skilled Technician Apprenticeships

Facility/Production Operator – Seven-month program that provides classroom training at SRS and participating technical colleges along with on-the-job training with qualified senior operators. After completing the program, the apprentice will earn college credits from the participating technical college to achieve a program certificate and to be used towards an associate degree if the apprentice decides to complete the degree. A certificate from the Department of Labor will also be earned.

E&I Technician – Thirty-six-month program that provides classroom training at SRS and participating technical colleges along with on-the-job training with qualified senior E&I mechanics. After completing the program, the apprentice will earn college credits from the participating technical college to achieve a program certificate and to be used towards an associate degree if the apprentice decides to complete the degree. A certificate from the Department of Labor will also be earned.

Maintenance Mechanic – Twenty-four-month program that provides classroom training at SRS and participating technical colleges along with on-the-job training with qualified senior maintenance mechanics and field time experience. After completing the program, the apprentice will earn college credits from the participating technical college to achieve a program certificate and to be used towards an associate degree if the apprentice decides to complete the degree. A certificate from the Department of Labor will also be earned.

Assistant Quality Specialist - Eighteen-month program that provides classroom training at SRS with on-the-job training with qualified senior quality assurance specialist and field time experience. After completing the program, apprentices will earn a certificate as an Assistant Quality Specialist from the Department of Labor.

Other Apprenticeships

Degree-Based Apprenticeships – The programs under the Degree-Based Apprenticeships are for individuals who are enrolled in college seeking a bachelor’s degree that is major specific in the apprenticeship disciplines listed below.

  • Engineering
  • Informational Technology
  • Business Management

Youth Apprenticeship – Twenty-four-month program for high school juniors in pursuit of a high school diploma. Participants will complete on-the-job training with duties in site training. After completing the program, apprentices will earn a certificate as an Youth Apprentice from the Department of Labor.

• 16 years of age or older
• At least a high school junior in pursuit of a high school diploma.
All apprentices must have a high school diploma prior to
successful completion of SRS Apprenticeship School
• Must successfully complete Savannah River Site
General Employee Training and substance abuse processing
Adult Program Requirements
Other candidates for apprenticeships
• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Must successfully complete the Work Keys for desired program,

The application must be complete including all current and previous work history and education (including high school and undergraduate level education). A resume may be attached, but not substituted for completing work history and education sections of the application. Adjunct applications are accepted on a continuous basis in order to build an active pool of qualified candidates and are reviewed and hired on an as needed basis. Temporary/contract positions are filled based on business need, not to exceed 12 months. Candidates considered for hire may be subject to a background check. Failure to consent to a background check will result in the removal of your application from further consideration. Background checks are conducted in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
