September was full of activities as we launched a new innovative, interfaith model project, and continued to develop and expand our programs and services.

Interfaith/Diversity Dialogues:

Planning continues in preparation for our second in a series of virtual, thought-provoking, interfaith, diversity dialogues “ Sharing Traditions for Life Decisions- on Social Isolation”. The webinar will be held on October| 22, 2020, with Keynote Speaker, Dr. Raymond Crowel, and in partnership with the Department of  Health and Human Services/Aging and Disability Services, the HHS Minority Health Initiatives, and the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC).

AMSS wishes to recognize the invaluable support of HHS Aging and Disability Service's staff under the leadership of Dr. Odile Brunetto.  They have supported AMSS since its inception with precious expertise and guidance. We also wish to acknowledge HHS New Partners, Minority Health Initiatives: Samikshya Sapkota with Asian American Health Initiative; Sonia Mora the Latino Health Initiative, and the Shauniqua Key and George McFarland African American Health Initiative.

AMSS Certified Nurses Assistant Scholarship Program (CNA):
In September, AMSS offered scholarships to 6 more candidates for the Certified Nurses Assistants training. We wish to recognize with gratitude the most generous supporters of our CNA Scholarship program: Dr. Yasmin Majid and Dr. Javed Rahmat. Thanks to their contributions,  we plan to graduate 25 CNAs by the end of the year.

Halal Meals on Wheels:
We distribute twice a month, hot meals, nonperishable food, and fresh produce to more than 180 diverse, isolated, under-served members.  As our members grow, so are the urgent cases for emergency services, requiring funds, time, and manpower. Young college students (Young Ambassadors), will be recruited to shadow our Ambassadors in the delivery of the Meals. Students credit hours will be given. We appreciate your generous contributions to help us continue AMSS outreach support to the most vulnerable members of the community.  

AMSS Acknowledges with Gratitude our Partners Old and New:

  • Montgomery County Police Department/Community Engagement, in the person of Officer Sherif Almiggabbar, AMSS Ambassador Sherif has gone above and beyond the call of duty in his outreach with AMSS to the county’s isolated and underserved diverse members. 
  • Islamic Center of Maryland(ICM) and Montgomery County Muslim Foundation (MCMF), we continue to celebrate AMSS Halal Meals on Wheels partnerships: with ICM and especially Ms. Adileh Sherif. Also, thanks to MCMF, Mr. Tufail Ahmad for his continuous support. 
  • Interfaith Works, we are delighted to welcome a new partner Mrs.Saman Quader Interfaith Works.
