FREMONT, CA — Thursday is a day that many girls from Hopkins Jr. High School in Fremont will never forget, thanks to Tesla. They participated in Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day at the Fremont assembly plant. Look at these bright faces — how many will become engineering superstars?

Tesla and Envirolution teamed up for the event. Envirolution is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders, something that Tesla supports.

"With females making up only a fraction of the engineering workforce in the U.S.," Tesla said in a statement earlier this week, "Tesla is committed to increasing female students’ exposure to manufacturing and engineering."

The event in Fremont included hands-on activities to explore different fields in engineering.

Tesla first got involved in the program last year by hosting 60 girls at Gigafactory in Nevada. This year, about 200 students visited eight sites including Gigafactory, Fremont, Livermore, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas.

Across California and Nevada, about 80 Tesla employees volunteered at the events, encouraging girls to see technology as a means to pursue their interests.

Tesla has over 10,000 employees in Fremont including mechanical, software, design and quality engineers and technicians.

Tesla concludes, "With events like Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, we’re excited to inspire the next generation of female engineers."
