Division:
Prevention Services / Nancy Furness, Division Director
Prior Board Review:
Executive Committee, 4/24/19

Background

Per Board of Health instruction, any recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board during the 2019 budget year.

The vacant Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) in the Tuberculosis Control and HIV/STD programs that was approved at the April Board of Health meeting has been filled by an internal candidate.  The candidate is currently a full-time investigator in the HIV/STD program. The internal transfer leaves the 1.0 FTE position in HIV/STD vacant as of May 1, 2019. This position investigates individuals and their contacts with sexually transmitted diseases, provides testing and education to high-risk clients, and refers clients to community providers for medical care.

The position is currently budgeted for $99,222 salary/benefits. It’s anticipated that a new hire will result in an initial annual cost of $84,000 - $90,000 based on experience, a reduction of approximately $9,000-15,000. Recruitment will begin once final Board approval is given.

Board Authority

Consistent with the Division of Responsibilities, the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.

Recommended Motion
