BOARD OF HEALTH STAFF REPORT (SR 19-066)
June 11, 2019
Consent Agenda

Authorize the Administrator to approve the recruitment of an Environmental Health Specialist I/II (EHS) to fill a vacant position in the Food Safety Program (SR 19-066; B. Straughn)

Division:
Environmental Health / Bruce Straughn, Acting Director
Prior Board Review:
Executive Committee, 5/22/19

Background

Per Board of Health instruction, any recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board during the 2019 budget year.

This position in the Food Safety Program was last recruited and filled in December 2018. Unfortunately, the employee hired at that time did not meet minimum performance expectations and employment with the Health District was terminated by the District during the probationary period.

The position is currently budgeted for $89,135 salary/benefits. Filling the vacancy will have no net effect on the budget.

Board Authority

Consistent with the Division of Responsibilities, the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.

Recommended Motion

MOVE TO authorize the Administrator to approve recruitment of a 1.0 FTE Environmental Health Specialist I/II position in the Food Safety Program to fill a budgeted, vacant position.
