Per Board of Health instruction, any recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board during the 2019 budget year.
One public health nurse (PHN) in the Communicable Disease Surveillance and Response program has retired, effective June 6, 2019; the other nurse has resigned her position, effective June 7, 2019. Both positions perform essential duties related to the control of communicable disease surveillance and response. The positions are responsible for interviewing clients, implementing disease control measures, developing partnerships with healthcare providers, and educating the community. They are also part of the 24/7 after-hours on-call rotation.
One position is currently budgeted for $119,950 salary/benefits, and the other is currently budgeted for $110,699 salary/benefits. It’s anticipated that a new hire in both positions will result in an initial annual savings of about $40,000 based on lower starting step and no longevity payment.
At the May 22 Executive Committee meeting, one FTE was brought forward for the committee’s approval. The committee approved the agenda item and forwarded it to the full Board on consent. The day after that meeting, the second PHN gave her notice to resign. Chair Stephanie Wright approved both FTE requests to move forward to the full Board as one action item.
