A flight of true European solidarity took off on Wednesday to bring home tourists stranded abroad.

Since the suspension of commercial flights from and to Cape Verde, many European citizens found themselves stranded on the archipelago's islands.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs decided to organise a special repatriation flight operated by Luxair on 25 March from the island of Sal to Luxembourg.

171 passengers of two dozen nationalities were on board: 52 Luxembourgish nationals and residents, 52 Germans, 42 Belgians, five Dutch, nine Swiss, four Austrians, three Spanish, three French, and one Lithuanian.

Upon arrival at Findel Airport the passengers were ensured a smooth return to their respective countries of residence.

This true European flight was additionally marked by the 25th anniversary of the Schengen Agreement, which is celebrated today.
