The state employed 1,489 people as part of the national health reserve by 5 May 2020.

Paulette Lenert provided this figure in response to a parliamentary question by CSV MP Diane Adehm.

The Minister of Health explained that this reserve was replenished in two ways, using essential health professionals without permanent roles as well as medical students and pupils from the LTPS secondary school.

By 5 May, around 700 members of the health reserve had been deployed in hospitals, care homes or advanced care centres. The figure is subject to fluctuations.

Lenert estimated the cost of these contracts for state employees at just over €10.3 million.
