GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WEAR) — Demolition is underway for the old Pensacola Bay Bridge.
The contractor plans to employ two demolition operations.
This will work in a "leapfrog" fashion across the bay continuing until mid-2020, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
Construction of the new westbound bridge will be underway - simultaneous with demolition activities.
As soon as the demolition equipment is far enough away, the pile drivers and foundation crews will move in behind them to begin the new construction.
