[Update: March 23, 3 p.m.:] Due to crowds at parks, beaches, and other recreation areas, Los Angeles County has now closed all hiking trails, parking at most beaches, and outdoor sports and recreation facilities, including golf courses. You may still go outside if you stay away at least six feet away from others.

While most venues are now closed, you can still go for a walk or jog (as long as you avoid crowds).

This remains true in the Bay Area, where San Francisco and five other surrounding counties have ordered their residents to “shelter-in-place.” We don’t know yet if Los Angeles will do the same, but we do know that Bay Area residents are allowed to get outdoor exercise if they can maintain social distancing while doing so. (That’s six feet of space between you and others.)

Per The Guardian, Dr. Grant Colfax, the director of the San Francisco department of public health, said, “You will still be able to walk your dog or go on a hike alone or with someone you live with or even with another person as long as you keep six feet between you.”

If you feel like you need some fresh air, the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation has released a guide as to which facilities are open and which aren’t. The following guidelines will remain in place through at least March 31.

Outdoor areas at the following places are open:

  • Local and regional parks
  • Botanic gardens
  • Trails
  • Lakes (boat launches are open)

The following areas have limited access only:

  • Free snack programs at certain parks
  • Equestrian centers are open for hoard boarders only
  • Golf courses are open for regular play, but not tournaments
  • Outdoor basketball and tennis courts are open

The following facilities are closed:

  • Restrooms
  • Gymnasiums
  • Aquatics centers
  • Golf clubhouses
  • Computer labs
  • Multi-purpose rooms and classrooms
