The holiday season is in full swing, and to help kickstart your travel plans, some of the busiest airports around the world have gone all-out with their festive spirit. From giant Christmas trees, to elaborate lighting displays, to charming Christmas markets, here's a list of truly decked up terminals.

Singapore's Changi Airport is famous for their extravagant Christmas decorations. This year, most of their set up is themed around Disney's Frozen II. If the 16ft Christmas tree wasn't enough, the newly opened Jewel Mall has installed jets along the walls that mimic snowfall at regular intervals.

Munich Airport, Munich:

This year, Munich Airport will be hosting its 21st Christmas and Winter market in Europe's largest covered outdoor space: the Munich Airport Center Forum. The market will feature more than 40 stands offering handicrafts, jewellery, toys, and delicious treats. Passengers can also come here to enjoy a glass of mulled wine. The highlight of this market is 625 sqm ice rink that will also feature live music every Thursday until the 29 December.

O'hare International Airport, Chicago:

One of the busiest terminals in the US, O'hare International Airport in Chicago is a winter-wonderland in transit. The terminal is studded with beautiful christmas ornaments and an array of lights. In addition to live performances, passengers can commute from Union Chicago station to the airport in an X'mas special train, a.k.a the Polar express, lead by none other than Santa himself.

This year, Christmas at Heathrow is extra special because i's halls were decked by students from Heathrow primary school. In an effort to celebrate local talent, the decorations were hand-made by these primary school students, making them the heart of this year's celebrations.

Zurich Airport, Zurich:

Zurich airport is all set for a Nordic themed Christmas celebration this year. Passengers can enjoy a range of activities from Fondue evenings, to Orchestra concerts, to Nordic-style Christmas brunches. There's plenty for the kids to do, such as decorating gingerbread houses.

San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco:

San Francisco International Airport will be celebrating the holidays with 3.3 million LED lights. The annual illumination is a spectacle that is open to the public and is one of the largest displays in the Bay Area. These lights will stay on till 1January.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Amsterdam:

At Amsterdam Airport, Christmas decor is serious business. The tallest tree here is 17 meters high and has almost 1800 meters of lights. The tree at the center of Schiphol is adorned with baubles and quirky ornaments of donuts and flamingos.

Christmas in Copenhagen Airport is in full swing. Apart from the gorgeous tree and beautiful light fixtures, the terminal has its own in-house Santa and charming performances of Christmas carols. This year, the holidays at LAX are an elaborate affair. The terminal has been inviting local musicians to entertain passengers while they travel. Additionally, since this is an extremely busy airport and time of year, the LAX Instagram page has been giving passengers a heads up during peak hours, advising them to show up slightly earlier than usual to ensure that passengers enjoy a stress free journey. There are also some festively dressed furry friends to help with that.
