Description of Job


The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation helps individuals with disabilities prepare for and secure employment. We help them take their rightful place in the workforce and in the community.  

This position, as a member of a highly specialized team of professionals, operating within the Personal Adjustment Training Program exists to train individuals who have severe visual and/or other disabilities.  This position provides training on computer programs, smartphones, and other assistive technology for customers of the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.  Provides instruction in the use of assistive technology and computer application programs for personal, educational, and vocational use.

This individual will be responsible for conducting individualized interviews with clients to determine the nature and scope of computer and technology training needed to meet client expectations and career goals. They will be responsible for formulating instructional plans and providing appropriate instruction to meet the needs of students, including monitoring student performance, satisfaction, progress, and outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights


Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor degree in Visual Impairment or Blindness, Computer Science or related field AND two years of professional experience providing assistive technology instruction to individuals who are blind/visually impaired.

Substitutions
Additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.  Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

OR
 

Possession of a current certification in Orientation and Mobility Specialist and/or Vision Rehabilitation Therapist from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP), or a Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling Certification credential (CRCC) or be a Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for People with Visual Impairments (CATIS).

OR

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, Behavioral Science, Disability Studies or closely related human services field AND two (2) years of experience working directly with individuals who have disabilities providing orientation and mobility services or vision rehabilitation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist and/or Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist and/or Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist for People with Visual Impairments from the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)."
  • Professional experience working for a state vocational rehabilitation agency
  • Professional experience working to assist people with disabilities to achieve successful employment outcomes
  • Experience in vocational, career counseling, academic advisement
  • Experience using the AWARE software system
Conditions of Employment

Minimum Qualification Screening
