The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring an air quality compliance officer for our Twin Falls Regional Office. This position provides crop residue burning field coordination, including observing and documenting burns, training growers, issuing notice to complies, developing enforcement referrals, and providing final burn approval notifications. This position also performs air quality stationary source compliance activities, investigates air quality complaints, conducts air quality outreach and education activities, and operates air quality monitoring equipment such as particulate matter and meteorological measurement systems.

Example of Duties

  • Provide crop residue burning field coordination
  • Serve as the main point of contact for growers
  • Conduct outreach and educational activities to promote public awareness
  • Provide technical assistance and training to enhance source compliance efforts
  • Issue final burn approval notifications
  • Respond to complaints
  • Investigate possible air quality violations
  • Develop enforcement referral packages
  • Perform air quality compliance activities for stationary source facilities
  • Install, operate, and maintain various types of air quality monitoring equipment

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field OR any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to a typical four (4) year bachelor's degree. For example: Successful completion of sixty (60) semester hours of study, including twenty-four (24) semester hours in a subject required for the specific discipline, is equivalent to two (2) years of undergraduate education; and/or experience performing routine duties in completing multiple tasks such as policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis and preparation of reports and written documents for at least two (2) years can substitute for one (1) year of college.

AND

At least four (4) years' experience managing and implementing, projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental, regulatory, or administrative in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.

OR

Possession of a master's degree in any of the above fields AND at least two (2) years' professional experience managing and implementing, or overseeing projects or component(s) of programs that are environmental in nature, where you were required to routinely perform program or project planning; provide technical assistance to staff, special interest groups and the public; and provide policy and/or regulatory interpretation and/or development.
 

 
Specialty Minimum Qualifications (required for this position):
  • DEQ 3002 - Environmental Education: Have approximately six (6) months of full-time work experience in environmental education with responsibility for preparing public education materials and conducting public outreach (examples would include information meetings or workshops, brochures, fact sheets) for an environmental program; OR Successful completion of college coursework and approximately twenty (20) hours of training involving public education techniques.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
