Passengers aboard a Delta Airlines Flight 2352 from Atlanta to Fort Lauren were in for a horrifying experience, as the flight rapidly descended almost 30,000 feet midway through the journey.

The flight, which was halfway to Fort Lauren, went down to an altitude of 10,000 feet from 39,000 feet in seven minutes, leaving the passengers in chaos and panic. The flight was then diverted to Tampa instead of Fort Lauren.

"There was a scary 60 to 90 seconds where we really didn’t know what was going on. You are 15,000 feet in the air — it’s a scary moment for sure,” a passenger Harris Dewoskin said.

He captured images of the chaotic situation inside the airplane, as the flight began plunging down and oxygen masks began dropping from the top.

"Air masks, the oxygen masks dropped from the top of the plane. Chaos sort of ensued amongst the passengers," Dewoskin said.

"One of the flight attendants, I believe, grabbed the intercom and was just repeatedly over the intercom stating, ‘Do not panic. Do not panic,' but obviously it's a hectic moment so the passengers around me a lot of people were kind of hyperventilating, breathing really hard."

The flight landed at Tampa International without any incident. According to a statement released by Delta airlines the flight was diverted to Tampa “out of an abundance of caution.”

“In hindsight, we turned out all right,” Dewoskin told WSB TV.

The plane is being inspected by mechanics at the Tampa International for possible cause of what went wrong.

Delta Airlines apologised to everyone on the plane. According to their statement, the incident occurred due to a cabin pressurization irregularity.

Some passengers, including Dewoskin, booked flights with other airlines after reaching Tampa, to get to Fort Lauren.
