Changing the world’s energy future and securing our nation's critical infrastructure ⚛️
About us
In operation since 1949, Idaho National Laboratory is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in energy research, nuclear science and national defense. The world's first usable amount of electricity from nuclear energy was generated here in 1951. At 890 square miles (569,135 acres), the INL Site is roughly 85 percent the size of Rhode Island. In addition to our geographic resources, the lab hosts a variety of unique facilities, including the Advanced Test Reactor National Scientific User Facility. Complementing our nuclear research, the lab has numerous alternative energy and national security programs. Robotics, wind power, high-performance computing, biofuels, critical infrastructure protection, carbon management and advanced vehicle testing are just a few examples of our multifaceted research capabilities. If you are looking for a 21st-century energy or technology career, visit our Careers tab at www.inl.gov.

INL just released an Advanced Conductor Scan Report profiling 44 electric transmission utilities – showing that while over 70% have deployed advanced conductors, there are still 117,510 miles of existing transmission lines that would benefit from reconductoring with advanced conductors to improve grid capacity and efficiency. ⚡ Advanced Conductor Technologies can be used to increase the pace of transmission capacity growth with little to no infrastructure upgrades and with less impact to communities than traditional new construction. INL kicked off Earth Week by celebrating our partnership with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. 🌎 🤝 Shoshone-Bannock Tribal community members, leaders and students toured the Middle Butte Cave and shared stories about its history and the importance of taking care of Mother Earth. Battelle Energy Alliance presented the tribes with a $30,000 grant for Shoshone-Bannock School District 537 STEM education during the third annual celebration, and we look forward to continuing it for years to come! How do electric vehicle batteries stand up to flooding?🌀⚡ At the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA, INL researchers have been examining nine once-shiny, new electric vehicles (EVs) that were damaged from Hurricane Ian in 2022. These cars were among 5,000 electric vehicles flooded with seawater during the storm. Learn more about an immersion test facility for testing EVs and battery packs expected to be available for testing by this summer at INL 🔋 https://lnkd.in/eAZw7je9 #EVResearch #ElectricVehicles #CleanEnergy #GreenTech #EVinnovation #research #NationalLabs #hurricane #EVbattery

INL researchers developed Consequence-driven Cyber-informed Engineering (CCE), a new methodology focused on securing the nation’s critical infrastructure systems. 🤝 🌐 With the assumption that if a critical infrastructure system is targeted by a skilled and determined adversary the targeted network can and will be penetrated, CCE provides critical infrastructure owners and operators a four-phase process for safeguarding their critical operations. We are proud to collaborate with CI-Discern on this effort to secure U.S. critical infrastructure. Learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gWNw2B7y #cybersecurity #research #tech #CriticalInfrastructure #cyber
CI-Discern and Idaho National Laboratory have an exciting announcement to share! CI-Discern licensed Idaho National Laboratory’s world-class methodology, Consequence-driven Cyber-informed Engineering (CCE), to help organizations secure and protect #criticalinfrastructure. CCE aims to secure critical infrastructure by analyzing high consequence events from the adversary’s perspective and then identifying methods to prevent it through #engineering and #cybersecurity means. This new collaboration between Idaho National Laboratory and CI-Discern allows us to share resources while assisting critical infrastructure organizations, whether that be working directly with engineers, threat intelligence analysts or cybersecurity specialists. To learn more about our company and how we can help you, visit our site at https://ci-discern.com/ or email us at info@ci-discern.com To learn more about CCE, click the link below.
