SAN FRANCISCO — Workers finished repairing a damaged runway at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday afternoon, about seven hours after closing it down to air travelers.

Authorities opened Runway 28L around 2 p.m., airport spokesman Doug Yakel said. That runway and another were closed after workers on the airport’s airfield team found a 12-inch pavement depression on Runway 28L during an inspection at dawn.

They also closed Runway 1R during repairs. That runway opened around 1 p.m. There are four runways at the airport.

Residual delays were expected for many hours, and about 12 percent of all flights experienced delays on Thursday, Yakel said. Those planes were an average of just more than an hour late, he said.

No flights were canceled directly because of the repairs, according to the airport.

Passengers were advised to call ahead to check on the status of their flight.
