The Mesquite Arts Council was designated in 1984 by the City of Mesquite “to execute and administer a community program for the encouragement, promotion, improvement and application for the arts”. The Arts Council provides grants for the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, The Mesquite Community Band and the Mesquite Arts Theatre. The organization also coordinates Mesquite Independent School District access and use of the Mesquite Arts Center’s concert hall for concerts, recitals and UIL competitions. Addition educational programming includes the Tote-and-Go art packets project that serves over 5000 families per year, Create Your Own and MAC Doodles craft and drawing videos for online access and Just for Kidz activities at the arts center.
MAC Presents are series of concerts and art exhibitions that are provided for free community access and participation in the arts. Mesquite Rocks features tribute bands of popular artists in the front lawn of the arts center for fans to BYOCC (bring your own chairs and coolers). The Courtyard Concert series brings regional musicians and song writers to perform in the beautifully landscaped arts center courtyard. And the newly established Off the Rails concerts bring a variety of musical styles to the city’s new Front Street Station developed for the Mesquite Farmers Market.
Visitors from North Texas have recently commented that the Mesquite Arts Center and MAC Presents provide much needed cultural and community activities for east Dallas County. The attractions and facilities bring families and guests together to share the opportunities the Mesquite Arts Council was administered to achieve in 1984. Everyone is welcome to come experience and see for themselves. Visit Mesquite.
