Fremont/Newark Bus Service Questionnaire: Introduction

Bus service plays an important role in addressing traffic congestion by reducing solo driving and improving mobility options. As you are aware, bus service resources are limited and primarily funded through tax measures, such as Measure BB or a parcel tax. Current resources allow for bus service to run every 30 to 60 minutes in Fremont and Newark. Some higher ridership corridors have 30 minute frequencies, such as Fremont Blvd., Decoto Road, and Mowry Avenue, while lower ridership areas have buses than run every 60 minutes.

We need your help to improve bus service in Fremont and Newark using existing resources. Options include changes to the service area or type. For example, we can improve bus service by expanding Flex, the AC Transit program that already is offered in parts of Newark and Castro Valley.

With traditional bus service, the schedules and routes are set. With Flex, you can book a trip using the app on a smartphone or a computer, or by calling the Customer Service Center. Flex service can offer shorter waits, more direct service, and faster trips than traditional bus service because it stops at designated locations as requested. However, wait times can increase during peak hours, and riders might be unable to reserve the trip for their preferred choice.
You can provide feedback by completing the 5 minute survey below, open until Sunday, September 29, 2019.

Thank you.
