Southwest goes all out for Halloween: Free drinks, decorated gates, CEO in 'Star Wars' costume

Corrections & clarifications: An earlier version of this article misidentified Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly’s costume, which is Obi-Wan Kenobi.

JetBlue Airways stole the Halloween show this year with its $31 flights, but Southwest Airlines wins the spirit award.

The nation's largest domestic carrier goes all out for Halloween every year, with airport employees encouraged to decorate ticket counters and gates and airline executives parading around in costume.

Southwest CEO Gary Kelly's costume this year: Obi-Wan Kenobi from "Star Wars." As in years' past, the airline posted a time lapse video of Kelly's transformation on social media. Kelly's earlier get-ups have included Woody from "Toy Story,'' Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz,'' and Phil from "Duck Dynasty.''

Southwest passengers also benefit from Southwest's Halloween spirit: the airline serves free drinks to travelers on Halloween.
