Tornado relief efforts continue for families in need in Talbot and Harris County.

“We have a great amount of partners out here working and just being nice to us today and we are really excited about that,” says Dorothy Bass, Family connection Director.

Church groups and organizations have traveled to Hamilton and Talbotton to lend a helping hand for residents after the natural disaster. Canned goods, clothes and water were all donated to bring aid to families.

“We are here supporting the community we have worked with Talbot County Family Connection to ensure that we are here for those who have been affected by the tornado so we’re just grateful to be here at this time,” says Lauren Chambers, Amerigroup  Marketing Account Manager.

One of the many items donators were gracious enough to give were school supplies for the children. Brundage says it was highly needed because Pine Ridge Elementary in Ellerslie was deeply affected.

“We had 56 students to be impacted by the tornado and that was just one school so the relief efforts brought to you by Amerigroup and those partners will go a long way,” says Lachandra Brundage, Harris County School District Social Worker.

Starting over is never easy, especially when you have a family, but staff workers at the relief centers are hoping to ease that stress with necessities and helpful advice concerning a child’s education.

“You do have a right for your children to attend school in Harris County, there’s School of Origin if you have to go outside of the district to find housing such as a hotel,” says Brundage.

If you are in need of items, you can stop by the Talbot Family Connection from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and The Hope Center from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
