Celebrate Community Service Month with MCDOT: Donate Child and Adult Bikes, and Bike Parts to Low Income Families

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Have a bike that’s no longer needed? On Friday, October 18, MCDOT will once again sponsor a bike collection during this year’s Community Service Month celebration. Donate bicycles and bicycle parts from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The collection will be held outside at the Council Office Building parking garage at the corner of East Jefferson and Monroe Streets in Rockville.

Donations go to the Rockville Bike Hub, a non-profit organization whose volunteers refurbish the bikes and then give them to low-income residents in the County through Rockville’s Terrific Kids and the County’s Linkages to Learning programs. This year, Bikes for the World is partnering with Rockville Bike Hub to accept donations of bikes that are beyond Rockville Bike Hub’s ability to repair. Residents may also donate by check to Rockville Bike Hub during the collection. All donated funds will be used to purchase bike helmets and parts to repair the bikes.

Last year, 100 child and adult bikes were collected as well as bike parts and helmets.

Information about MCDOT’s Community Service Day is available online.
